Hello, friends! It’s Dawn McVey here and I’ve got a fun project to share with you today. It’s the time of year when I need some post-Christmas thank you cards and this year, I thought it would be fun to use some of my leftover Christmas die cut bits and bobs……but make it wintery!

I gave myself a little challenge to use some of the leftovers out of my vintage printer’s tray full of die cut Christmas gift toppers, but I didn’t want the thank you cards to feel totally Christmas-y. I wanted them to give a nod to Christmas, since they’re thank you cards for Christmas gifts, but I wanted them to have more of a winter feel.
PRO TIP: To give them a wintery January feel, I simply added some wood tones and blues!

I used some of that cool woodgrain card stock (https://lcipaper.com/wgtxt811-tin/) that Betsy used on a recent post and it added some instant warmth!
PRO TIP: Run over the woodgrain with a blending brush and some brown ink, to really highlight that wood texture! If you don’t have this card stock, you could just use kraft card stock or you could perhaps emboss it or stamp it in a similar woodgrain pattern.
I also added a strip of darker blue card stock that was embossed with the Shortbread Shapes Snowflake embossing folder. It adds an added bit of detail and helps to drive home the blue color palette.
PRO TIP: Don’t forget that you don’t have to use your embossing folders on full panels of card stock! Just a bit of embossing on a strip of card stock adds a bit of fun and makes your card more interesting than if you’d just added a plain strip of card stock.

All of the flowers were created using the Bigger Holiday Botanicals dies, plus a few bits here and there cut with the Wild Wetlands die.
The one other item I added to every card was the little label, with the thank you sentiment. I used the Linked Little Labels stamp set, die and embossing folder to create those and then stamped them with a sentiment and companion image from Large Linked Labels.
All in all, I think they turned out pretty cute and I love that the blues really became a prominent feature that helps these to read differently than just as a Christmas card!

Do you have thank you cards to make? I hope you’ll give this a try! If you do, I’d love to see! Tag me @dawnsing!
Thanks so much for spending a bit of your day with us here!
Happy New Year!

Little linked labels and embossing folder just arrived at my house!! I’m just wondering if you could share any tips for using the dice with the embossing folder because I’m not getting them to line up very well. Thanks!
Hi Anne! When embossing, the paper can tend to sort of “pull down” inside the folder as you pass it through your machine. To minimize this, instead of passing the folder through all the way in one direction, start at one end and run it through half way, then back out again. Repeat, starting from the opposite end, running it through half way and back out again. You should find much better alignment using this technique! Here’s a link to a spot in a video where I demonstrate this: https://youtu.be/KVGxHL49ZME?t=195
beautiful as always. Love the new dies.
I love these beautiful Thank You cards that Dawn created! Thanks for sharing them. I recently purchased several of these sweet flowers and while I don’t have everything that Dawn used I’m still anxious to create some Thank You cards for next Christmas and maybe other types of cards, too.
