Hello, friends! I have a super fun project — pile of projects, really — to share with you today for The Greetery! I turned 50 at the end of last month, and found myself needing a stack of thank you cards. I could have pulled from my stash, but I felt like making a set of cards that were all color coordinated, but each one unique, to commemorate this big birthday! I mean, I’m sending them to a dozen different addresses, so no one will know that they’re part of a set, but it felt like a fun creative challenge, and a fun project to take on….for me! For the joy of making. Do you know what I mean?

PRO TIP: I will stop right here, though, and say that this project would make for suuuuuuuch pretty gifts!! You could make sets of a dozen coordinating cards (or less, if you prefer), package them up cutely (that could be as simple as just tying them all together with a pretty bow) and giving them as a gift. I have a few people right off the top of my head, who would be thrilled with a gift like this. Guess that means I need to make more! 🙂

PRO TIP: And before we go any further, let me just say that I used a lot of different stamps and dies to make these cards. You can see them all in the supply list at the bottom of this post. The point of this post though, isn’t to make you feel like you need allllllll of these things to make a set of your own. The point is to remind you that you can use all the stuff you already have, to make a project similar to this one!!!!

Decide on a color combo of maybe three colors and build from there. I started with a soft pink, a coral/berry color and navy. When I needed additional shades of blue (like for leaves), I used the same navy but stamped it off first, for a softer shade.
Once you’ve chosen your color palette, choose a sentiment and a few layering dies that you want to include. In my case, I chose the ‘thank you’ from Opposites Attract. That sentiment is on every card, just stamped in different colors.
I also chose the A2 Stitched Scallops, Crest N0.1, and Crimped Frame dies, and then built from there. I chose a focal image, as well….two of the flowers from Birth Month Blooms Q2 (the rose because that’s my birth month flower, and the hawthorn because I just like it! 🙂 I used these flowers on every card.

Beyond that, I just mixed and matched….same colors but different layered elements.
USE WHAT YOU HAVE! Or buy something to layer with what you have, if that’s what floats your boat. The point is to not feel like this is an impossible project for you to make!! The sheer volume of things I used here, should prove to you that you, too, can layer and mix and match to your little heart’s content, without spending another dime if you don’t want to!
PLAY with this challenge! Have fun with it!! Enjoy the process!!! And oh my goodness, if you make your own color coordinated card set, by all means tag me (@dawnsing) and The Greetery (@the_greetery) on Instagram, so we can see it!
PRO TIP: When making a big set like this, make the most out of every element you choose. If you pull out a background stamp, use it on several of the cards. But change it up….stamp it in each of the colors in your palette. That will force you to change up the layers on each of your cards, if the backgrounds all start out a different color! If you’ve got a die out, die cut it multiple times, and from each of the colors in your palette. If you die cut a little accent (like the gold carrot top leaves!), use them on all or a lot of the cards. Those little touches will help to keep all your cards cohesive and looking like they go together, even if all the other elements are mixed and matched.

And with that, I leave you to take this fun card set challenge…..or don’t! Haha! But I sure hope you do! Bet you have fun!! 😉
Have a great day,
Dawn

Dawn….you gave us a really cool way to make cards. I’m so busy w/ gardening and working full-time (10 1/2 days), I have not had a chance to make any cards for awhile. Once fall comes, I’ll have more time. Cannot wait to use your suggestions…Happy belated birthday 🎂!
