TGIF – Foodie Friday

Happy TGIF! I’m back for this week’s TGIF. It seems my trend towards food-themed projects continues. Maybe we should just start calling this Foodie Fridays. 😊

I have a fun project today, inspired by some real life events. This week we hosted our church youth group for one course of a progressive dinner. We were in charge of serving the salad/appetizer course. Knowing most teens’ aversion to anything green, we put on our thinking caps and decided to put together a charcuterie board (don’t worry, I had to google how to pronounce it too 😊). If you spend any amount of time on Pinterest, you’ve probably seen this trend…gorgeous boards filled with meats and cheeses, fruits and veggies, and more. The concept has expanded to other themes too. I’ve seen amazing waffle boards, donut boards, and more. So fun!

Here is our charcuterie board before the teens dug in (yes, those are pepperoni roses and no, that’s not real wine 😁)…

Inspired by the whole concept of charcuterie boards, I decided to create a card version using some of our foodie images. Plus I was looking for an excuse to make something summery (it’s time for winter to go away!), so I pulled out our BotaniCuts Strawberries die and the Lemon Blossom set.

A slimline card seemed like the natural choice for this idea, so I pulled out our Crimped Slimline die and cut the largest layer from that set from white cardstock. Then I needed my “board”, so I pulled out my Shiplap Builder die and covered a long strip of cardstock with the Shiplap Builder planks.

Then I went to town layering the lemons, strawberries, leaves, and flowers from both of the sets until my board was nice and full. I finished it off by simply stamping a sentiment along the bottom using a sentiment from the Fresh Air set.

TGIF – Signed & Sealed Florals with Norine + Save the Date!

Happy Friday! It’s time for our weekly dose of Friday inspiration, but before we get to that, a bit of fun news! We have some new products heading to the shop next week! We’ll be sharing sneak peeks and a day of projects before the new products go up in the shop next Friday, August 13.

And now let’s turn it over to Norine for all of the details of the beautiful project she has for you today!

Hello Greetery friends! It’s another Greetery Inspiration Friday, and I’m happy to be back to share a pretty little card incorporating bits and pieces from some of the older Greetery products! My goal was to create a visual of opening an envelope and having tumble of flowers pour out!

I began with a lightly inked Shiplap die cut background, adhered to a card panel and folded card base. Then I stamped and die cut an envelope from heavy weight white cardstock. I stamped the outline in grey/brown ink and a liner in blue, visible only faintly behind the flower bouquet.

I stamped a variety of flower images from the Merry Sprigs, Print Shop Fresh Floral, Simple Things and Print Shop: Floral Frames stamp sets, then die cut them all and used a few to create the bouquet. (Some left over for next time is always a good thing!) I used the Pretty Postmarks sets to stamp and die cut the blue postage stamp. (I notice in the shop, that the Pretty Postmarks stamp set is out of stock, so fingers crossed for it’s return soon)

I arranged the various flowers and leaves into a gracious bouquet and taped them on the backside of the envelope die cut. With the shiplap planks, and the envelope and stamp positioned at a slant, I wanted at least the greeting to be oriented as close to perfectly horizontal as possible.

To accomplish that, I laid the envelope onto the card front, with all the components lightly tacked in place, then positioned the sentiment stamps on the envelope, lining them up with a T-square ruler butted against the left side of the card. Then I removed the envelope and put it (with bouquet) into the MISTI, and picked up the perfectly placed sentiment stamps by closing the door of the MISTI down onto the envelope. I like how it provides a solid focal point in the midst of everything else all tilted and askew!

It’s a pretty basic card design, just a little time consuming to stamp and die cut all the flowers, but if you keep an envelope of leftovers from other projects, you’re already halfway there!

TGIF – Unconventional Trees, 2 Ways

TGIF time! We’re heading into the last weekend before Christmas and I hope you’re all doing well.

I had a little time to create this week, and wanted to share a couple of different ideas I had for creating trees using some unconventional supplies. While your holiday cards are likely finished up and already on their way, these fun trees would also be perfect for post-holiday thank-yous or even winter birthdays.

My first unconventional tree was inspired by my dad (hi Dad! 😊). He’s always making cute stuff out of old barnwood and other supplies, and lately he’s been making some really cute trees. I took his idea and turned it into a paper version using our Shiplap Builder die. I mitered several planks to create the tree. My dad was probably able to just whip that out in no time, but it took me a bit to figure out the best way to get it just right! The planks were sponged and splattered before diecutting, like I showed in THIS video. I used Frayed Burlap and Weathered Wood Oxide inks along with some white gouache for the white-washed effect.

Once my tree was assembled I embellished it with some diecut leaves and branches. These were cut using a few different dies – the BotaniCuts Mighty Oak and Inside & Out Berry Branch. I always seem to have a little pile of these on my desk left from other projects and they were perfect for this.

For the background, I wanted some texture, but also didn’t want to distract from the tree, so I layered some Inside & Out Berry Branch diecuts over my background, cut from the same paper. I added a few splatters and gold stars as well, cut using the Pinwheel Party die.

My next tree uses the Macramé Openwork Base die to create a cute fringe-y tree.

To create the tree, I used the straight openwork die from the Macramé Openwork Base set and cut it twice, directly side-by-side, like this:

Then I trimmed it down to the height I wanted my tree to be – I used the twig and pole hangers from the Boho Banner die as the center of my trees, so I trimmed down my fringe portion just a bit shorter than that, to allow for the trunk to extend beyond the tree. Then I just used my paper trimmer to trim each side from the lower outer corners to the center of the strip like this…

You can use as many layers as you’d like, depending on how “fluffy” you want your trees to be – I used two layers for mine. On my project today I used white cardstock, but colors are cute too as you can see from the other trees in my photo – they use two layers as well, but cut from different shades of green cardstock.

For the background on this one, I created a shiplap background using the same ink colors and technique that I mentioned above. I added some white ink splatters and gold stars to finish it off. The sentiment is from the Tree Trimmings set and was heat embossed with white over the shiplap background.

TGIF – Pretty in Purple with Angelica + Save the Date!

Hi friends! Thanks so much for joining me today. I have a fun project to share, focussing on the Pine Blossom stamp set, And Shiplap Builder die.

I started by picking out a palette of Distress Oxide Ink colors. My mother-in-law was my inspiration, and purple is her favorite color. I used Seedless Preserves, Chipped Sapphire, Wild Honey, and Black Soot on the large flowers, and Dusty Concord for the small flowers. The stems and leaves are Forest Moss, Chipped Sapphire, and Crushed Olive. I used finger daubers to add the ink to the stamps.

The sentiments are also from the Pine Blossom stamp set. I blended Dusty Concord and Milled Lavender Distress Oxide inks onto white card stock, and tapped a bit of ink and paint onto the panels. Once dry, I die-cut them with a Crimped Frame, and mounted them on coordinating card stock.

For the background, I followed directions from Betsy’s recent YouTube Video. I did a blotch blend of Victorian Velvet, Weathered Wood, Dusty Concord, and Milled Lavender Distress Oxides onto inexpensive watercolor paper, and I quickly brushed watered-down white gouache paint with a wide paint brush. Once the panel was dry, I die-cut the Shiplap pieces, and attached them to a panel. I trimmed the panel, assembled the card front, and adhered them to card bases.

I love how this color palette turned out! Purple is not my go-to color for Christmas, but it works, and my mother-in-law is going to love it! I hope I have helped with inspiration using these products together. Thanks so much for joining me!

All Make & Tell Tuesdays

Make & Tell Tuesday: Shiplap Builder Wood Effects

Hi all! It’s been such a long time since I’ve had a chance to do a Make & Tell Tuesday. Sometime early this summer things got super crazy and there was just no squeezing it in. We are slowly getting caught up, and I’m excited at the possibility of having a little more time for things like this again!

So today I have a Make & Tell video showing how to create a couple of different wood effects to go along with our Shiplap Builder die. These are easy to do, and so realistic!

I’ll show you two different looks – one a more rustic, mixed wood look, and the other a pretty whitewash effect.

I used the whitewash planks to create a pretty chevron background. I finished this panel into a card by clustering lots of Mimosa Musings and BotaniCuts Pine branches around the outer edges, and added a Written in Ribbons Holida y sentiment. I added some sparkle to the branches with the glass glitter from our Hug in a Mug Embellishment kit.

I also finished off the rustic panel into a holiday card. I used the Fresh Air Window Frame die to add the window frame. I also added a window box by double-cutting a Shiplap Builder plank to create a shorter plank. I backed the window frame cuts with vellum and added some faux snow to the sills. Some snowflakes and greenery cut with the Frosty Corners and BotaniCuts Pine Bough dies finish off the scene.

My first few cards use the new BotaniCuts dies. I just love these…they are some of my favorites ever! For this first card, I cut two sets of the BotaniCuts Mighty Oak. I watercolored all of the leaves with bright, vibrant colors, and the acorns in shades of brown.

I assembled both branches as they were designed, and layered them together over a panel of watercolor paper cut with the Nordic Frames die. I added some loose blue watercolor to that panel as well, to create some “sky” for my branches. I finished off the design with a sentiment from the Blessed Blooms set.

For this next card, I colored a bunch of the cute mushrooms from the BotaniCuts Toadstool Garden set and paired them with a Halfsies Oval Shiplap background! To color the mushrooms, I started by cutting them from white cardstock, then sponged them with oxide inks, and added shading and details with colored pencils.

To create the shiplap frame, I covered a panel of lightweight cardstock with Shiplap Builder planks. My panel was slightly larger than an A2 card so that I would be sure to have enough space to cut two Halfsies Oval dies. I cut two of the planked halfsies and layered them over a panel of watercolor paper which I prepped with some loose blue watercoloring. I clustered those cute mushrooms as well as leaves and acorns from the BotaniCuts Mighty Oak set. For the sentiment, I pulled out my Birthday Blooms set for the “happy” and paired it with the “autumn” from the Blessed Blooms set…those mushrooms just looked happy to me, and thought they needed a “happy” sentiment!

My next card uses all of the cut floral and leaf elements from the new Blessed Blooms set. The little elements from Birthday Blooms are definitely some of my favorites, and I’m excited to have even more variety of that same look with the new Blessed Blooms set.

I stamped these in shades of pink and orange, using Victorian Velvet, Rusty Hinge, and Aged Mahogany inks. I also clustered in a few of the acorns from the BotaniCuts Mighty Oak set….those little guys might be my favorite! Behind my floral cluster are a few Shiplap Builder planks and a background done with the Square Dance die and stencils in matching shades.

My next card again sneaks in a few of these same new BotaniCuts elements, but this time I also pulled in the new branches from the Mimosa Musings set. This set is so fun to stamp – those little “puff ball” blooms are so fun! I added a little depth of color to the centers of the blooms with some colored pencils for even more pop.

I stamped the Mimosa blooms in shades of pink (more Victorian Velvet + Aged Mahogany) and yellow (Wild Honey with a bit of Crushed Olive for a little more greenish zing + Rusty Hinge). Behind those pretty blooms and ‘shrooms is a rustic “door” I created with four vertical Shiplap Builder planks finished off with a horizontal plank at both the top and bottom. The sentiment is once again from the new Blessed Blooms set (can’t get enough! 😊)

My last card uses the new Mimosa Musings set paired with the new Square Dance die and stencil. I didn’t really intend this when I started, but it almost ended up looking like the flowers are coming from a woven basket…that idea is totally making me want to go create a card with a more intentional take on that idea! (I’m putting that down on the to-do list!) Can you imagine it overflowing with a whole bunch of our autumn goodies?

But anyway, back to this card…the Mimosa blooms were stamped in shades of blue – Speckled Egg and Blueprint Sketch. I again added some deeper color to the centers with colored pencils. I added some Shiplap Builder planks to the top of that Square Dance panel to give it a nice finished edge. Tucked in the “basket” are the mimosa blooms and a Postal Frames diecut, stamped with the “I’ve been thinking…” sentiment from the Mimosa Musings set. I also finished off the inside with the rest of the sentiment to say “about you”, along with a couple of the smallest mimosa clusters.

That wraps up my projects, but there is so much more to see from the team, plus a chance to win!
