Before we get to the projects, here’s a quick video showing the new Knit Wits stencil collection…
I have so many projects to show you using these new sets, so let’s get to it!
First up are several projects using the Cozy Cup set. I had so much fun playing around with this set and trying different looks! My first card is very soft and pretty. I’m not sure what’s gotten into me…I’m usually all in for color, but the neutrals have just been really calling to me lately! Here I did just a bit of soft watercoloring in the background, and then I layered the Cozy Cup Coaster die, cut from white cardstock, and a stamped Cozy Cup over the top. I stamped the “sitting here, thinking of you” sentiment around the saucer. All of the sentiments from the set are curved to fit perfectly around the the cup, giving this set a really fun look. The leafy sprig is also from Cozy Cup, and the berry cluster is from the new Autumn Sketches.
My next card is a much brighter take. These little cups are so fun to stamp in all the colors – just like yesterday’s bottles! I stamped a whole bunch of them and just had fun playing with color. Here I once again used the Cozy Cup Coaster die, and this time I added some color to it with some simple brushstrokes of watercolor, using the pierced design as my guide. This would be such a fun card to send to a friend that you’ve been missing. I have one that I really need to send this to…every time we run into each other we say we need to grab some coffee and catch up! 🙂
There’s a fun sentiment included in the set that says “leaves are falling, coffee is calling”. I used it here on this card, paired with the Autumn Sketches set. I used the Crimped Frames dies to cut the frame. I also added some knit texture to the background using the Knit Wits stencils. I’ve decided everything is better with splatters, especially gold splatters, so I added some here to finish it off.
My next card was totally fun to make! I wanted to capture the vibe of a trendy, modern coffee shop, and I had the idea to create a background using a jumbo flat brush and some bright watercolors. It was so fun and easy to do, I would recommend trying it! 😉 I also added some splatters for fun. The cups were stamped in bright colors, and then to keep things looking a little simpler, I heat embossed the spoons with silver embossing powder right onto the saucers instead of using the matching die. I thought it helped show off the background a little more. I also stamped a couple of sentiments from the set around two of the cups to finish it off.
Now I have a few projects using the adorable new Katie’s Cuties: Gettin’ Cozy set. These little cuties are so busy with their knitting, getting ready for the cool fall weather. This mouse under the mushroom might be my favorite image from the set, and it looks adorable with the new Bountiful Wreath set. I created the background by sponging some tan ink over white cardstock using the all-over knit stencil from the Knit Wits set. I stamped the frame from the Bountiful Wreath set and nested the inside of the frame back inside the diecut after I sponged it with some green ink and heat embossed that cute sentiment from the set. The little mouse under his mushroom was colored using Polychroma colored pencils and the no-line coloring technique. I just love his sweet face and big ears! I scattered a few tiny falling leaves in the scene too, which are also from the Katie’s Cuties set.
For my next card I used the image with the whole gang! That little sheep is being such a good friend. 😉 This time I stamped the image with black ink onto kraft cardstock, and once again used my Polychroma pencils. This isn’t a technique I’ve done much before, but I wanted to play around with coloring the sheep using a white pencil onto a darker background, and I love how he turned out. Of course they all need rosy little cheeks to really make them come to life. For the background, I did just some subtle watercoloring, and also added some texture paste with the knit stencil. I stamped a few of the tiny leaves and added just a little colored pencil shading to them. The fun sentiment here is also from the Katie’s Cuties set.
For my final card for today (and for the countdown!!) I wanted to experiment with the Knit Wits stencils to see if I could create something that almost resembles a fair isle pattern. I started off by sponging a panel of white cardstock with some bright Distress Oxide inks. I then used the first step of the two-step stencils and sponged colors that matched my inked background. For the second step of the stencils, I used white texture paste. This was so fun to do and I’d love to try it in more colors. I cut my panel down using the largest Crimped Frame die (note to self for next time…diecut first, texture paste second 🙂 ), and also cut a small oval opening. Inside the opening I stamped a sentiment from the Katie’s Cuties set. I added that sweet sheep sitting on his pile of yarn. I painted him with gouache, which was also kind of a new technique for me. I haven’t done a lot with this medium, but I love the look and need to practice some more! The rainbow color palette is definitely not your traditional fall color scheme, but it’s bright and fun and I think a little person would love to receive this card – in fact I have one in mind that I think I’ll send it to!
