Happy Friday, all! Laurie is here with a super fun (and informative! 😊) TGIF all about hot foiling…enjoy!
Hello friends! It’s Laurie here with today’s TGIF! I am sure by now you have seen the new Deco Triangles Hot Foil Plate. If you are like me….you are in love! Foiling has become something that I love to do. Adding little bits of shine to a card is so much fun and makes them look so finished and fancy!

Using my Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil System, I used gold foil and then Deco Triangle Plate to create a super simple background. The plate itself would create the most amazing background by itself, but I used the Deco Triangles Stencil Set to add in color. I love that the stencils make it so easy to step it up a notch!
I wanted to keep much of the background with the foil and color showing so I added a Crimped Circle die in white cardstock at the bottom of the card. This way I could pop up the sentiment from Opposites Attract. I love the bold font and the little extras you can add to create the perfect sentiment.
Are you new to hot foiling?
Spellbinders has a platform called Glimmer Hot Foil System. This platform heats up metal plates called Glimmer Plates. These glimmer plates come in ALL different types….sentiments, florals, backgrounds, graphic details etc….and add the most gorgeous foiling detail to your cards. And the foils? There are LOTS of different colors to choose from!
The Glimmer Hot Foil System works great with lots of different die cut machines. You can click HERE to see a compatibility chart.
First you heat up the platform and your glimmer plate on the Glimmer System Platform. Then you add in the foil and the cardstock and run it through your die cut machine. Once you pull off the foil negative, the magic happens! That foil that is set on your cardstock and the results are just gorgeous!

Happy Friday morning! I love your pastels Laurie and I think the crimped circle shows off the background even more. The Deco style is gorgeous and the only thing I have to decide is which color foil to use. I can’t wait to give my stationary sets at Christmas. (if I can wait that long) Thanks so much for your post! 😊❤️
Hi Stephanie! There are so many gorgeous colors of foils….you are so right! It is hard to decide. Thank you!
BEAUTIFUL WORK, Laurie! I LOOOVE Hot Foiling! SO GLAD that Betsy jumped on the band-wagon for us! LOVE the new Deco Triangles Hot Foiling Plate! It leaves a DEEP impression that I LOVE too! I am going to pull out the Deco Stencils & play today! Is there a SPECIAL ORDER to use them in? I noticed the numbers are NOT on the stencils this time.LOVE your card & the colors you chose to use on this, Laurie! A SUPER JOB!!! ;)<3
Hi Becky! There is no special order for the stencils. You can you all or even just a couple of them. I think leaving some of the spaces white gives a fun look too! Thank you for your kind words! 🙂
So pretty Laurie!! You are inspiring me to try hot foiling!
I appreciate you!
Hi Cassie! Yay! I am so glad! You will love hot foiling! 🙂
Hi Laurie! Your foiled card is just beautiful. Thank you for the inspiration. After watching you ‘foil’ a card I purchased a machine. My order is on it’s way, and I’m excited to try this new to me technique!
What system did you order and from where? I can’t find the Glimmer system anywhere!
Is there anyway to use this without a hot foil system?
Hi Charlene! Yes! You can use the hot foil plates to create letterpress looks without a foiling machine. You can ink up the plates with an ink brayer and run them through your diecut machine.
Aha! A stencil to help with the coloring! Thanks Laurie … just take my money. Take it all! Ha!
