Hello evening crew! It’s Tuesday, and that means I got to spend some time creating! I put together a new Make & Tell video to share with you. There have been several requests to do some coloring videos for the BotaniCuts Lily, so today I pulled out my colored pencils and put one together for you.
In the video, I’ll show two variations of the same basic technique. First we’ll color a white lily, and then switch the colors for something a little bolder and create a Stargazer lily – one of my favorites.

I’ve been wanting to pull out my Simple Things set again after Laurie shared her beautiful project a week or so ago for her TGIF post, so I did that to create a few cards using the lilies I colored in the video. I thought it would be the perfect filler for a few of the lilies.
For the card with the stargazers, I layered the Simple Things eucalyptus under the lilies, along with the medium rectangle from the Nordic Frames die. I sponged some Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink underneath. The eucalyptus was stamped with Bundled Sage and Iced Spruce, along with Frayed Burlap for the stems. The sentiment is a combination of stamps from the Bountiful Wreath and Sentiment Suite: Thinking of You sets.
I wanted a softer, monochromatic look for the card with the white lilies, so I did a simple watercolor background and layered the white lilies and eucalyptus over the top. The sentiment is here is from the Simple Things set.
And good news! The BotaniCuts Lily dies were just restocked in the store!
I hope you enjoyed today’s Make & Tell, and you’re inspired to go create something!

Loved the video, Betsy! Thank you for taking time out to share with us! Love this die! The cards you created are stunning as always!
Thank you for this video Betsy- I had no idea how helpful a demo would be using colored pencils. I’ve enjoyed using my lilies, will certainly try this coloring technique now!
Thank you! I was playing with the lily die yesterday…colored pencils and watercolors. Now I have a clearer understanding on building the colors.
Gorgeous cards! Loved the video. Thank you for all the tips you share.
i am amazed at your coloring of. the lilies. Thank yiu for showing your process in detail. I have several flowers that this method would work for. The hellebores in my yard have the same type of markings on the petals but was unsure how to even attempt it when coloring a Hellebore stamp.
Hi Betsy! I need to check your blog more than once on Tuesdays! (I’m not always the most patient). Thank you so much for the wonderful video, I learned a lot! I spent nearly 2 days playing with the lily dies and they turn out gorgeous, with just a little ink blending and pencils. With your video, now I know what I’m doing, Yeah! Your cards are fabulous, Thanks again! 💌😍
They are so beautiful! Maybe one day mine will look as good as yours!
How gorgeous! Thank you for the great video and tips!
I am probably least practiced with colored pencils so this is a great challenge for me. My favorite flowers are roses and lilies. My garden will be overflowing with inspiration soon! Your recent Botanicuts are tr\uly my favorites!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this terrific tutorial. I drove across town today to buy more colored pencils and the Finesse blender, and I’m eager to make more lilies.
Thank you for this video Betsy. I have to try your technique soon! Can’t wait!
Wonderful video and great tips. The flowers turned out lovely.
I ❤️ to go back in The Greetery’s blog and watch the “Make & Tell Tuesdays” videos for inspiration for dies/stamps that I have had for a while! It always brings new life to them which is great because they are beautiful and timeless!
