It’s time for a Make & Tell Tuesday video! I’ve had several requests showing how I colored the whit pinecones and soft branches on this card from the November release…
I used pretty simple techniques of ink sponging/blending and colored pencils to get the soft coloring on these. I put together a video showing exactly how I did it.
I’m showing the white pinecones in the video, but you can of course use this same technique on darker brown pinecones. Consider cutting them from kraft cardstock and adding the same shading, just using darker pencil colors. There are of course many other ways to color these, this is just one example. Many of the Inspiration Team used watercolors, which also turned out just beautifully!
I took the branches and pinecones that I colored in the video and created this bonus card for you. I’ve really been wanting to try creating a wreath with the BotaniCuts Pine Bough branches and I’m excited about how it turned out.

I started by drawing a circle with a pencil on the largest Nordic Frames diecut, then used that as my guide for adding the pine needle sprigs. I used mostly the smaller sprigs from the set, but I also used some of the larger pieces, snipping them apart to create shorter branches. Once the wreath was all assembled, I added chunky glitter, lots of white ink splatters, and even more texture with white Nuvo Drops and some white texture spray I had in my stash – Irresistable colored texture spray in Wedding Dress by Imagine Crafts (sorry I did not have luck finding this in stock anywhere, so it may be discontinued)
Before I go, just a note on restocking. We are expecting a shipment of dies, including the BotaniCuts Pine Bough die very soon. If our supplier meets their shipping deadline we should have these dies back in stock by early next week. We have a shipment of stamps coming soon as well – they should be here by the end of next week. If there is a particular item you’re wondering about you are are always welcome to email customer service. We will be putting items in stock as we receive them. In the past we’ve tended to restock stamps and their matching dies at the same time, but between now and Christmas we’ll be putting them in stock as we get them in because I know some of you are waiting on certain items. I just wanted to thank you for your patience with us as we try and navigate our way through our very first ever holiday season here at The Greetery. I know some of you have felt disappointed by missing out on certain items and we will strive to make improvements as we move along!

I was so hoping you would show how to do the pine cones. They fit together so nicely but I couldn’t figure out how you made that white pine cone card.
She demos the pinecone construction in the 11/21/2019 blog entry! Sweet!
Love the wreath you made and thanks for the great video on coloring!
Thank you for another wonderful video. It is mesmerizing to watch you create! I love how you used the dies to make the gorgeous wreath. I have to try this out now. I appreciate that you always provide us with alternate ideas for your stamps and dies.
Holy Moly! I am new to The Greetery, and so glad I found you. Your products, and Design Team, are fabulous. Thank you for the jaw dropping inspiration.
You are amazingly patient with your coloring. That’s why you get such gorgeous results! Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Betsy.
Betsy, I think your video & cards are GORGEOUS!!! You SOLD ME on this Botoni Cuts Pine Cone Die when it came out! I think it is GORGEOUS & CAN’T WAIT to see it back in the store! I’ve been playing here with your images & dies & coming up with my Christmas Cards….. 😉 Assembly line here we come! LOL AND THANK YOU for your little gift that came with my order!!! SO SWEET!!! ;)<3
Oh my this is something else. I love they way it turned out I can’t wait to play with the pinecones. Thanks for sharing the way you put this together. Its lovely.
Betsy, I really appreciate that you not only design the best stamps and dies out there but that you also take the time to make these amazingly helpful videos. I feel like I’m taking part in an art class with you while watching them (which would be so awesome!) You’re a great teacher, thank you for all you do!
I really like the way this die turns out…hoping I’ll get a Christmas gift certificate – I suggested it as a gift! (ha). Also thank you for your thoughtful gift of pen & note pad that arrived today with my order.
Thank you so much for posting this video – I also was wondering how you made those pine cones – they are gorgeous! And thank you also for your videos…I learn so much from each one and they have also encouraged me to try new techniques I probably would never have tried if not for your videos to show me how. Thanks so much!!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I appreciate you!
Betsy, thanks for keeping us up-to-date with the resupply information. I was a bit disappointed to miss out on the Botanicat Pine Bough with my recent order. But then I remembered that my creations for Christmas 2020 will start in a few weeks. I make individual cards as I found assembly line construction to be more of a job than a pleasure. So I start early and sprinkle in Christams cards every month. I will be getting this die when your new stock arrives. Also, thank you for keeping your shipping costs low. That will make me feel better about ordering exactly when I see something I like rather and saving up for a large order as I do when shipping costs are high.
Any chance you will make a small addition for Harvest Home set? I can picture a stable and some horses in the pasture….
Thanks for sharing Betsy. I ordered that set of dies and it is on it’s way and I simply cannot wait to get my hands on it. Thank you also for the stock update. I did order a couple of stamp sets where the matching dies were out of stock but reckoned I would get the dies on the next order. Considering this is your very first year and first holiday release I think you have done amazingly. Well done you. I think I speak for most of us stampers when I say that we all wish you well in this exciting venture and we know how hard you are working to make a go of it.
Fabulous, thanks for always sharing the how to’s of making these items and I just love how you made a wreath out of them also!
This is simply beautiful! I’ve managed to order some of the texture spray here in NZ, so I’m pretty excited 🙂
Stunningly beautiful work! So dreamy! WOW!
Gorgeous! Can’t wait to try!
Hi Betsy! I’m a little late with my comment, but I finished my Christmas cards (& envelopes) using my awesome Greetery products! I took a break and was playing with the pine cones, they are so pretty by themselves but I couldn’t resist adding some glitter. Thank you so much for sharing the video, it’s a tremendous help! I’m giving myself a gift after Christmas and plan on practicing different techniques with the help of your videos. Card making this season has been especially exciting for me because of you. My thanks to the design team too! It’s been a wonderful new adventure!
P.S. I meant to add that I love the falling snow! As you can imagine living in Florida it isn’t something I see unless I go to The Greetery! And thank you for the gift, it was a generous & thoughtful touch! I love it AND the beautiful pens. Ok, I’m done now. Lol. 😊❤️💌
Betsy – once again thank you so much for making a video for us to watch. You are very patient and give wonderful explanations on how to use your products. You truly inspire the creativity in all of us – you are a blessing to the crafting community! I also want to give a shout out to your design team – what delightful samples they made with all of the new products, I could not wait for my order to come! Thank you for the little gift included in my order! Such a surprise! I am so glad you started The Greetery – can’t wait to see what is next! Happy Christmas to you!
