Good morning, friends. I’m participating in a special post today, for a dear friend in the industry, Lea Lawson. If you’re not familiar with Lea and her story, you can read more about it here on her blog.
In remembrance of her son Layton Caleb, Lea is raising money to purchase $50 Starbucks gift cards for all 50 beds in the level 4 NICU at the U of M Masonic Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. What a wonderful way to provide a hurting family with a token of care and comfort during a difficult time.
If you’re interested, there are a few different ways you can help…
- CREATE – Lea is once again doing a card drive, and this year’s theme is “Sensitive Sympathy” geared towards parents who have lost a pregnancy due to miscarriage or stillbirth, infant or child. You can get all the card drive info HERE.
- DONATE – directly to Layton’s Legacy GoFundMe
- SHARE – spreading the word about Lea’s project through your social media outlets is welcomed & helpful
I created a card for Lea’s “Sensitive Sympathy” theme to share with you today. I used my watercolors to create a peaceful pink sunset scene, then stamped the small tree from the Christmas Eve set. I added a single stamped star to the sky, along with some glitter. The sentiment is from the Cotton Comforts set. I also created a matching envelope by sponging some inks to match my watercolored sky over the scalloped stencil from the Flappable stencil set. I’ll be sending this card to Lea for her card drive.

A beautiful serene scene for a sensitive sympathy card. Very nice.
Beautiful card.
Your scene is perfect to bring peace to a hurting heart.
I remember the crushing pain she tried to convey as I read her story when her daughter didn’t survive in the womb. Unless one has been through it themselves or other heartbreaking fertility issues, we can only offer loving sympathy and other means to show our care. What a beautiful expression of love from you Betsy and I hope many, many will contribute, express love or create for in remembrance of these two beautiful children.
Beautiful card, I have to look at this set I didn’t give much attention when it was first released, also I have that same pain over the years my girls are in a very happy place .
Gorgeous!
It’s a thoughtful & generous gesture for families in pain. Your sunset is so pretty and serene Betsy. Thanks for sharing your lovely card and the link information. My best to Lea.
So beautiful and thoughtful! I remember Lea’s story, and it broke my heart to see her pain. I love how she is reaching out to others in similar circumstances.
That is so beautiful Betsy! Thank you for sharing about the donations.
Beautiful card!
Gorgeous card. The colors are serene, calming…almost hopeful…something needed by the recipient of such a card. I will surely be casing this. Thanks very much for the beautiful inspiration.
Such a beautiful card. Thanks for helping spread the word about this worthwhile cause.
oh this is just beautiful and so peaceful!
Lovely, Betsy. As usual, you match your cards perfectly to the occasion. I’m sure you’ve inspired many of us to get cards made this morning for this wonderful cause. Bless you!
