Today we actually get to bust out those paints and brushes! I feel like I’ve probably teased you sufficiently, and I bet you’re ready to get painting! 🙂
In today’s video I’ll be painting the woman from the Hand in Hand set. You have some options for how you would like to paint her. Her “jacket” can be just that, worn over jeans or leggings, or you can turn it into more of a dress and make her legs flesh-toned. You can choose any color under the sun for her jacket, play with hair-color, etc.
I tried to keep the video mostly real time, but I did speed it up in a few spots, just to move things along a little, as I tend to just kind of fiddle when I paint. 🙂
I hope you enjoy! I’ll be back again tomorrow for Day 3 where we’ll paint the man from the set!
Also – a quick restock update! I have tracking info for the rest of the product we’ve been waiting on, so we hope to have the store completely restocked by this weekend! yay!

Thanks for these videos! I can’t wait to start playing along today! 😃
Love it! Can’t wait to try this out!
Great video, Betsy. You make it look easy, but I know it’s not. I love to see how you work with the wet and dry technique. I’m definitely going to practice. Thanks!
Thanks for doing the video in real time! It’s like we are standing there right in your Studio, watching! I’m assuming that for the stamped outlines, you’re using a waterproof ink pad. Is it Ranger Archival Grey?
Yes, use a waterproof ink. Sorry, I forgot to talk about ink! I actually really like Sea Salt by Taylored Expressions. It’s very, very light, so I stamp the images a few times repeatedly using a stamp positioning tool to get them a little darker. For the images in the videos, I wanted a darker line so things would show up a little better in the video and you could see what I was doing. I didn’t have a great medium gray waterproof ink on hand, so I inked my images with a sponge (rather than direct pad to stamp inking) just using Memento Tuxedo black ink, which is a good waterproof black ink. This worked well, too!
That was a great way to start us off with simple water coloring techniques. It was my question also as to which ink to use as an outline to prevent bleeding. Thanks so much for the great video!
HI Christal! I should’ve been a little more specific about inks – sorry about that! Use a waterproof ink – see my reply to Polly for more info on what I used. 🙂
